Meet Tom Udell – South Court Slumlord and Hollywood Mogul (Miami Vice, The Shallows and Uncle Buck). Tom and his family bought the South Court Apartments on ML King Way in Bremerton just a few years ago. They immediately pushed out all the residents who relied on housing vouchers and started raising rents EVERY YEAR. In just a few years Tom and his family have quadrupled their investment in land value alone! But that is not enough for this greedy family. In just a few years the price of a one-bedroom apartment rose from $800 a month to close to $2,000! Meanwhile the residents have to put up with massive amounts of black mold (which Tom’s company says is not their problem) and a lack of maintenance.
History of South Court Apartments: South Court was built using government funding for the purpose of creating permanent affordable housing in Bremerton back in the 20’s. The building has traditionally been a haven for people seeking affordable rent in Bremerton.
